A Different Approach to Ministering to Teenagers

The common approach to youth ministry in the local church is to separate the teenagers from the rest of the church as much as possible.  The teens have their own activities, their own church gatherings, basically, their own church.  This approach has been proven not to work.  Separating teenagers from the rest of the church is never a good idea. That's why at Lighthouse Baptist Church, we understand that teenagers are not getting ready to be the church; they already are.

Relationships

All relationships flow out of one's relationship with God.  Young people must realize they need a healthy relationship with God before any other relationship can be what it ought to be.

We want young people to know that the one true God of the universe wants to know them, communicate with them, and love them.

We encourage young people to ask questions and know their beliefs, not because the pastor or youth team member says so, but because the Bible says so.

Volunteering

We encourage teenagers to not only own their faith but to own their church. God is doing his work on this earth through the church. God doesn't not being using people for His work when they turn 18. He wants to use every one. The young people at Lighthouse take ownership of many ministries.  This is not their parent's church.  This is their church.

Fellowship

Weekly Teen Impact Bible studies and Quarterly Teen Impact Fellowships allow young people to get together and have fun. The Teen Impact Fellowships include cookouts, game nights, camps, and conferences.
